Yankees Flirt With Comeback
Close, But No Cigar Pie
No victory pie last night. They tried to be The Drama Club. I thought they were going to do it. Ah, well, at least they lost to the Rangers. I still want to win, though. Whatever. The Yankees lost to the Rangers 10-9.
Save it for some other time, A.J.
Pitching Analysis: Joba Chamberlain pitched again on wacky rest, and I think it is because of that that he stunk. Joba only went 4 innings, threw 96 pitches, and gave up 7 runs in 9 hits. It was gross. The Yankees had a 4-0 lead. Then Joba made it 4-2 thanks to an Andrus double. The 4th inning was utterly disgusting. With 2 out, Pudge walked, and that started it. Joba could NOT get the final out. 4-3. 4-4. Before I knew it, it was 7-4 Rangers. Not at all a good performance by Joba.
He looks pissed, and he should be.
Chad Gaudin pitched 3 & 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs. Damaso Marte was the only good one. (I can’t believe I am saying that!) He went an inning and a third of scoreless ball. Obviously, the pitching (or lack of) was the reason the Yanks lost last night.
Defensive Analysis: The defense was pretty good last night. In the 1st, Joba was in one of his many jams. 1st and 3rd with 1 out. But he got Byrd to ground into an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play, which was turned beautifully by Cano. Nick Swisher made another great play in right. In the 3rd, Michael Young hit a sharp liner to right, which Swish caught backhanded while sliding. Yeah, Swish!
Offensive Analysis: The Yankees jumped out with 4 runs in the 1st. It was all done with 2 outs. A 2 out walk for Tex, followed by an Arod single. Matsui’s double scored them both. Jorge hit a 2-run homer. If anyone else was on the mound, I think we would’ve won that game. (Well, maybe not Mitre..OH! I’m sorry, sexy! jk,jk…) The Yanks tacked on one in the 5th via a solo homer by Cano to shorten the defecit to 8-5.
The 9th is where it got interesting. I had the TV on, but I wasn’t watching. I was talkng to fellow blogger EJ on Facebook. The Yankees got the bases loaded with no one out, and scored a bunch of runs. I thought I smelled a walkoff. My man Melky came up with the score 10-9, and 1st and 2nd with just 1 out. I was so nervous for him. He hit a ball right on the screws, and I started to say, “YES!!!” But before I could finish saying it, I saw that Andrus somehow caught it, and he stepped on 2nd to complete the game-ending double play. You should’ve heard me. Not the kind of stuff a lady should say 🙂 But on the replay, I don’t remember who, but that Yankee was safe sliding back to second. Poor Melky. He couldn’t have hit the ball any harder. A 10-9 loss.
It was a tough, tough loss last night. But if the Yankees HAVE to lose, I’m glad it’s to the Rangers so the Smelly Sox who cheat at Fenway don’t gain any ground. The Yanks now have a 6 game lead over those Sox. Not bad, but I’m insatiable when it comes to a division lead. I always want more. I just have that feeling that the Yankees are going to win tonight. I sure hope I am right. MAKE ME RIGHT, YANKS!!! I LOVE YOU ALL!!!
I’m sure we’ll see it again.
I thought Marte looked good too! Wouldn’t it be great if he proved to be a valuable member of the pen? It would give us more options there for sure. I thought the Yanks would come back in the ninth, because they’ve done it so many times before, but it just wasn’t meant to be. Well get ’em tonight!

You obviously don’t know anything about baseball, because the the Sox did gain ground on you guys, seeing as how they won and you lost. But, anyways, gotta say I wish you guys did win, just to put some room between the Rangers and the Sox. But, oh well. And, I guess the Red Sox just somehow know how to cheat at Fenway–they just have this switch they turn on when they get there. Yeah, that makes perfect sense.
A very heartbreaking loss, hopefully the Yanks can rebound tonight! PS: it was Hairston that got doubled off:)
Again, love the blog

Wow, sounds like a really tough game. I hate it when my team has a lead and then it disappears in one inning. Are you guys ready to get rid of Gaudin yet? haha. Looks like he’s continuing his horrible run-giving-up ways!!

A really tough loss that was almost oue losign when we comeback and almost win.

Facebook?! I need FUA – Facebook Users’ Anonymous… Quite sad. I have a link for mine on my page if you want it!
Anywho, last night was gut-wrenching. I wanted to scream, but I was too tired from work. That game took the rest of my energy out of me. After I heard how stinky Joba was I wanted to go through the TV and shake him – not that I’d do much damage ’cause he’s huge and I’m not – ’til he cried. Ah, well. Tonight better be a different story, or else the boys in the Bronx are going to get a very, VERY heated visit from yours truly!

This is the part that Yankee fans will have to get used to for the rest of the season. Joba is going through growing pains and the team is trying to limit his innings to save his arm for the postseason. Even if they go to a traditional 4-man rotation, the yankees will need his dominating arm in either the rotation or the Bullpen to secure wins in the short series.
And the fact he is struggling right now with the team having a big lead in the AL East might be a good thing.
Good becuase he is going through it all now and not on the mound during a AL CD or ALDS match-up in October.
He will be fine, just starting to feel the wear and tear of a full season throwing every 5 days, or in this case, 8 days.

It’s usually not a good sign when Damaso Marte is your most dominant pitcher of the evening. That means that somewhere along the line, the train fell off the tracks, flipped over, burst into flames and then sunk into the earth.

We did get some great offense last night, as Lisa pointed out; we were 5-10 with RISP. Which is good because usually we suck at that. I’m hoping we can expand on that tonight and give Andy some run support since it seems whenever he pitches us and scoring runs are estranged. As for the Red Sox…….as hard as it to do sometimes, we just need to ignore what they’re doing. We can’t rely on other teams to do our dirty work for us. Sure it would be nice if the White Sox played like a major league team and beat them every now and again, but as much as we hate their filthy, rotten guts…..the Sox are a good team and they are going to win more games than they lose, just like us. I just hope those games they lose happen the same time we’re winning.

I say enjoy the loss and get used to it, because that way come post season time you wont be so heart broken…:-)
Facebook and TV… it’s not true what they say about Yankee fans then, you can multi-task sometimes….LOL

sooooo close! Why did Girardi have Swisher bunt? I’m sure you guys would have won if he was allowed to go up their and swing away..
The Yankees showed us tonight that they don’t just lose games. This team looks great even when they lose. What a team. ITS ABOUT TIME!!!

Virginia, you are right. Joba sucked because he had too much rest and his pitches were up. I’m sick of this Joba Rules crap. He’s paid to pitch…..let him pitch. Now, Girardi is going to pitch him on Sunday. The only thing worse than a moron is an inconsistent, two-faced moron! I’ve loved the Yankees since 1970, but I hate that Neanderthal-looking dipshit and I want him to get fired. I can’t figure out how they are 31 games over 500. I’m also tired of this crap over giving days off all the time. They’re all primadonnas. I’d like a day off too! Why would you ask Swisher to bunt last night? Where was Hinske? More importantly, why is a .245 hitter batting in the two spot tonight? How can you replace Damon with Swisher? Why is Damon getting another day off? He has banker’s hours! Maybe I’m crazy; but I would put Cano in the two spot. So they have 17 games over the next 16 days……boo-hoo! That’s what they’re freakin’ paid to do.
Now, playing a child’s game is too taxing? Give me a
f#$%ing break!! When does the football season start? At least my Giants are real men!!
I think that the Yanks are making a mistake limiting Joba’s innings. All that is going to happen is that he’s going to get to the postseasn and not be sharp at all. And that is going to cost them. Big mistake.

Virginia – The reason I don’t like Damon…I don’t have one. Just never liked him. Swisher? Well he’s too good! Guess that’s not such a bad thing for you guys! LOL! Congrats on the win over Texas tonight.

*The loss yesterday was devastating… there’s nothing worse then seeing a 9th inning comeback gone to waste. Why is everyone tearing Marte apart? The past is the past, and I highly doubt the man is a major league pitcher for no good reason. If he’s performed well, (even if it’s just a couple consecutive innings,) – appreciate it. I hope he keeps it up…
As for tonight’s game in Texas – Pettite did excellent. Similar to all of our rotation – the wins are that much sweeter when the score is based on more then just our offense. When we hit well, AND pitch well – we’re unstoppable. That’s what we witnessed last night – and we’re right back on the win tip.
Virginia, I want to talk to you more but like you said – this is supposed to be baseball! Leave me a screenname or an email address – we keep talking half baseball, half other stuff lol – Ill hit you up. Then we can talk more often –
