A Tex Message

Homer #31 For Tex Means Difference In Game

It was a pretty good game last night. It may be classified as a Drama Club win. The Yanks were up 3-0, and then late in the game the A’s made it 3-2, but the Yanks held on for the final 2 innings for the win. Usually, the Yankees are “hitting” dramatic. No one said they can’t be “pitching” dramatic. So that’s what it was. A “pitching” dramatic win. The Yankees won 3-2.

Pitching Analysis: Chad Gaudin made his first start in a Yankee uniform last night. He pitched pretty well. Gaudin went 4 & 1/3 innings of shutout ball. He allowed just 1 hit, but 5 walks. He also struck out 5. Girardi pulled him early when he had bases loaded with 1 out. He was not too happy about that. But Aceves came in, and on the first pitch he threw, he got Suzuki (Melky’s horse!) to ground into a 1-2-3 inning ending double play. Nice!

Not the most flattering of photos. Anyway, Gaudin impressed me last night.

Aceves got the win and pitched 2 & 1/3 innings. He gave up 2 runs, but the rest of the Yankee bullpen managed to hold the slim lead. Coke, Hughes, and Mo had scorless outings, and Mo picked up his 36th save of the year.

I thought Chad Gaudin pitched pretty well, better than any of us would’ve imagined. His slider had nice bite to it. I can see he is a strikeout pitcher. Maybe the Yankees can work with him to make him into a dominant force on the mound.

Defensive Analysis: The defense was solid last night. There was an error made on a double play ball. Jeter flipped to Cano, who missed the ball. I thought it should’ve been Jeter’s error, but they gave it to Cano. Johnny Damon made a lovely play in the 3rd. Kennedy hit a foul ball that almost reached the seats. Johhny ran a LONG way to get that ball; we all know how much foul territory that place has. Johnny ran it down and gloved it for the out. Kennedy was pissed. Who says Johhny can’t field? It seems like every day he makes a nice play.

Offensive Analysis: There wasn’t much offense last night on either side. Both teams only got 6 hits, but the Yankees got 3 runs. Jeter singled to leadoff the first (what else is new?). He stole a base, moved up on a Damon groundout, and scored on a Tex groundout. 1-0 Yanks.

Derek Jeter scores the first Yankee run in the first inning.

Jeet had 2 hits last night. All he does is hit!

In the 4th, Johnny led off with a single. Then Tex came up. He hit a line drive homer to left, a 2-run shot. The ball took like 1 second to get into the seats. Whoever caught the ball received a Tex Message! Ha! 3-0 Yankees. They went on to win 3-2.

Tex is adorable.

It was a good game last night, always good when the Yanks come out on top. The heroes are Chad Gaudin, for pitching well in his first Yankee start, the bullpen for holding the lead, and Mark Teixeira, for providing all 3 RBI’s for the Yanks last night. Tex is MVP! And maybe Jeter for MVP, too. They are both having phenomenal years. The Yankee lead over the smelly Sox remains at 7 games since they also won last night. But look out, Sox! The Yankees are coming into town soon! Be afraid! Be VERY afraid! Hahahaha!

Yeah, forget Tex, give it to Jeter! Man he’s on fire! Still, neither will get the MVP… it’ll be Mauer. Take him out of Minnesota and they’re a 70 win team. Take Tex out, the Yanks still around the top.

Thank God for Tex, huh? He won the game for us with all three RBI. What a season he’s having. I’m happy Gaudin made it through scoreless. That was clutch. I’m just happy they got the win and can spend this off day positively. They better not be partying in Beantown tonight!

We’ve had quite a few games over the years where one guy was all the offense. I remember one game a few seasons ago where Jason Giambi scored all 7 runs we had against the Royals. It was funny – I think after the game the scoreboard even showed that.

Mark has definitely been a godsend for this team and his value continues to show itself, not just at the plate but in the field. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen him make plays and said to myself “There’s no way Giambi gets that.”

I love Teix! He is slowly becoming my favorite player but I think Jeter will always have that spot. His defense amazes me more than his offense most of the time! He has saved countless games for the Yanks this year with tremendous plays that most of our ex-first basemen never would have come close to!
