On the Mark, Teixeira!

Yanks Take Game 2, Good Pitching and Timely Hitting

I found some time today to squeeze in a blog entry! It was a pretty good game last night. The Yankees won thanks to some runs late in the game, so they were kind if  “The Drama Club” last night. They had great pitching, and some timely hitting. The Yankees beat the Mariners 4-2.

Pitching Analysis: Andy Pettitte started for the Yanks last night. He started out badly, giving up singles to Ichiro and Gutierrez, a double to Lopez, and an RBI groundout to Griffey. He gave up 2 runs in the 1st, stormed angrily back into the dugout, and knocked over the thing of sunflower seeds. Andy decided that that was enough runs to give up. He wanted to pitch better, and he did. Andy was superb. He went 6 innings, and just gave up those 2 runs, 6 hits, and he had 10 strikeouts along the way. Great job, Andy!

After allowing 2 runs in the 1st, Andy got tough.

In relief of Andy came Brian Bruney, Phil Hughes, and Mariano Rivera. All of them had scoreless outings. Hughes got the win, and Mo got his 34th save of the year! The Yankees had great pitching last night.

Defensive Analysis: Good pitching, good defense. They go hand-in-hand. The defense was solid again last night as the Yankees played errorless ball and made every play.

Offensive Analysis: The Mariners pitched very well last night, and the Yankees struggled against him. But they got enough runs to win.

In the 2nd, Jorge Posada hit a ball that went off the top of the wall. He thought it was a homer, so he asked for the instant replay. The umpires ruled that it was a double, so Jorge had to settle for that. Cano grounded out, which moved Jorge to 3rd. Swisher walked, and then Jerry Hairston hit a double play ball to short. But Swish slid hard into 2nd, and broke up the DP. Hairston was safe at 1st, and Posada scored. Yanks down 2-1.

In the 5th with 2 out and the Yanks still trailing 2-1, my man Melky got himself an infield single. He smelled the hit and hustled all the way. Then as Jeter was up, a wild pitch was thrown, which enabled Melky to go to 2nd. Then Jeter got himself a seeing eye single, and Melky scored to tie the game! Imagine that. A harmless 2 out infield single, and before you knew it, the game was tied. 2-2.

With the game still tied heading into the 9th, Mark Teixeira came up to the plate. Well, the “Texicutioner” struck again. He hit a home run, his 30th of the year! Is he “On the Mark,” or what! 3-2 Yankees. The Yanks tacked on another one, as Cano doubled and Swisher knocked him in. Mo closed it out, and the Yankees won 4-2. It was a well-played game.

Tex’s blast!

The Yankees took the 2nd game of this 4 game set, and they really played well. They had great pitching, and not much hitting, but they got the hits that added up to runs. The heroes for the win are Andy Pettitte, for vowing to do better after knocking over sunflower seeds and actually doing it, the Yankee bullpen for holding the game where it was, and Mark Teixeira, for his blast that put the Yankees on the winning end. The Red Sox won against the Rangers (damn!) so the 6.5 game lead the Yankees have remains at just that. Sexy-boy Mitre pitches tonight, so I hope he will be alright.

I will be opening my presents and having my cake TONIGHT! A day early, since my aunt has to catch a plane on Sunday. I can’t wait!

GO YANKEES! WIN FOR ME, BOYS! I LOVE YOU!

Andy pitched a great game, but he needs to settle down when things aren’t going his way. Great to know that the Yankees are winning in dramatic fashion. Here’s my opinion, the Yankees need to score more runs, more hitting. The pitching is fine, but even with the wins, the offense needs to step it up a notch.

It’s officially Sunday here on the East Coast, so Happy Sweet Sixteen, Virginia! I hope the Yankees pull the sweep off for you and Joba strikes out a ton of batters.

When Mark came up to bat, I knew he was going to hit a HR. A part of me just said, we really need this run…..he’ll find a way to give it to us, and he did. Where this team would be without him, I don’t even want to think about. Andy was phenomenal as usual and apparently CC is rubbing off on him – when did he become a strikeout pitcher? LOL

I didn’t realize a player could ask for a replay the way Posada did. I think that should be just for managers and umpires. Funny.
